As part of rebuilding of Liberty Church in Hale County, Alabama after being destroyed by a tornado on April 27, 2011, many volunteers have removed trees, repaired and cleaned broken headstones. In an effort to establish a permanent and complete record of interments, Judith Phares Mills, Bertha Jean Hoggle, Paul RouLaine, Amy Smithson, James Crowder and many other volunteers have recorded, cleaned, photographed and mapped out what they could find.
If you are planning a trip to Liberty Methodist Church, we have superimposed a grid over an image of the cemetery and once you locate the map coordinates (last column) of the person of interest go to our map to find their approximate location. This should give you a general idea where to start looking for your person of interest.
Please enjoy this virtual tour of Liberty Cemetery by selecting the Last Name hyperlinks on the cemetery list below and you will be taken to that individual’s plot on Find-A-Grave. This will allow you to visit Liberty Cemetery from the comfort of your home, leave virtual decorations.
If you have any information that is not on this list, corrections or hopefully map locations for unmarked graves or any additional interments not listed, please contact us.
