As part of rebuilding of Liberty Church in Hale County, Alabama after being destroyed by a tornado on April 27, 2011, volunteers have removed trees, repaired and cleaned broken headstones. In an effort to establish a permanent and complete record of interments, Judith Phares Mills, Bertha Jean Hoggle, Paul RouLaine, Amy Smithson, James Crowder and other volunteers have researched, recorded, cleaned, photographed marked graves and mapped out the cemetery the best they could.
If you are planning a trip to Liberty Methodist Church, we have superimposed a grid over an image of the cemetery and once you locate the map coordinates (last column) of the person of interest go to our map to find their approximate location. This should give you a general idea where to start looking for your person of interest.
Please enjoy this virtual tour of Liberty Church & Cemetery and by selecting the Find-a-Grave hyperlinks on the cemetery list below and you will be taken to that individual’s plot on Find-A-Grave. This will allow you to research the history of Liberty Church & Cemetery from the comfort of your home and learn more about the families from this part of Alabama.
If you have any information that is not on this list, corrections or hopefully map locations for unmarked graves or any additional interments not listed, please contact us.
